As a Certified B Corp, Wellworking believes in putting people and planet first, and we want to help our customers make more sustainable choices.
To that end, we have researched and developed a set of criteria to label a selection of our products as a ‘Greener Choice’ that covers the product from manufacture through to end-of-use.
This is an evolving criteria, as improvements and standards change rapidly. Rather than 'greenwashing' products, we acknowledge that no manufacturing is truly 'zero impact'. We simply aim to provide a reference to ensure our customers have the opportunity to make informed decisions.
In order to earn a Greener Choice badge, these products have scored highly across the following eleven areas that cover the life cycle of the product from production through to end of life:
Recycled Material – The proportion of recycled materials used in the product’s manufacture and where this material is sourced from
Durability & Repairability – Does the product have a long warranty period, is it designed and have the quality to be usable for a long life cycle, and is it easy to repair?
Modularity – Can the product be modified after purchase to change its features or specifications to ensure its longevity or extend its useable life by being upgraded?
Recyclable/Renewable Materials – How much of the product’s components can be recycled at the end of their life and how easily can this be done locally
Sustainable Packaging – How much of the packaging used by the manufacturer is made from recycled material, how easy it is to recycle after use, have they minimised packaging or used reusable packaging, and have they eliminated non-recyclable packaging, such as polystyrene/foam
Renewable Energy – How much the manufacturer’s facilities use greener energy rather than fossil fuels
Waste Management - How well the manufacturer deals with waste materials and its progress in reducing waste
Chemical Safety Certification – Has the manufacturer received certifications to show the product and its production processes do not produce harmful chemicals?
Eco-Friendly Transportation – Does the manufacturer use lower-emission vehicles or offset its logistics’ carbon emissions, and are the products transported in a way that maximises vehicle capacity
Fair Labour Practices – Does the manufacturer and its supply chain comply with established social certificates or standards and meet modern slavery requirements
End-of-Life Programmes – Does the manufacturer have a take-back or other scheme to recycle the product when it is no longer able to be used in the local area, to avoid being shipped elsewhere to landfill
Only those products that have a combined score of 65% or more qualify for this badge. Not all our Greener Choice products will score highly in all these areas and no product is likely to receive a perfect mark.
